RPCA is furthering new generations of railroaders!

The Railroad Passenger Car Alliance is proud to support the next generation of railcar owners, tourist railroad volunteers, and railroad professionals. RPCA is a national rail preservation organization actively promoting the passing of institutional knowledge and skills to the next generation.

Aspiring & accomplished railroaders under 30 can attend RPCA’s annual conference for FREE.

RPCA is a financial supporter of the National Railway Historical Society’s RailCamp. RPCA members fund scholarships that give teenagers hands-on railroad industry experience.

RPCA hopes to be the spark that ignites the passion of railroading for future generations.


Furthering New Generations Committee

The RPCA Furthering New Generations Committee (FNG) is a young professional’s organization within the Railroad Passenger Car Alliance. FNG is tasked with promoting involvement in historic rail preservation and excursion passenger rail operations to young professionals between the ages of 18-30. FNG members elect a RPCA officer, the Vice President of Youth Development.

Furthering New Generations Committee members organize separate events, conference seminars, and organize conference financial assistance to members under 30.

William Fuehring Fund for Future Leaders Scholarships

The William Fuehring Fund has one purpose, that is to make it easier for younger individuals to become active in the railroad industry. The fund will pay 100% the cost of a candidate to attend the annual RPCA conference. This includes hotel accommodations, transportation, attendance at seminars, the annual banquet, and any additional activities.

Who was Bill Fuehring?

Bill was a lot of things, he was the founder of RPCA, a great friend, mentor, teacher, and negotiator. More importantly Bill was one of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet. Bill was taken from this world unexpectedly and RPCA misses him dearly. In an effort to preserve his memory and honor his legacy the RPCA Board of Directors created the William Fuehring Fund for Future Leaders.

To be eligible for Fuehring Fund scholarships you must:

  • Be 19-30 yrs old.

  • A member of RPCA or any organization that is a member.

  • Have not previously participated in the program.

  • Submit an essay on why RPCA should consider them to be part of the program.

  • Submit a completed application no later the November 15th.

  • Must be able to attend the next scheduled conference in January.

Applications must be submitted no later than November 20th. All applications will be reviewed by the Fund committee. If you are selected you will be notified by December 10th.

NRHS RailCamp Scholarships

RPCA members provide financial support offering scholarships to attend NRHS RailCamp, a program that gives teenagers with an interest in trains hands-on railroad experience.

RPCA founded the Caldwell-Luebke RailCamp Fund named in memory of long-time members Jim Caldwell and Kevin Luebke.

RPCA has also have added the Stanlee E. Weller RailCamp Fund specifically for a female student named in memory of RPCA’s long-time Treasurer.

Together these funds typically provide full scholarships for two RailCamp attendees. RPCA sponsors their full tuition. Transportation to/from the RailCamp is generally the responsibility of the attendee.

Each year the RPCA RailCamp committee selects candidates to attend one of the week long sessions. Successful candidates are students aged 14-18 (generally entering the 9th grade through graduating seniors). Preferences are given to active members of RPCA Member Organizations and their families.
